EMRC Project Incubator Award

To encourage development, innovation and entrepreneurship in the agro-food sector in Africa, EMRC will present the "EMRC-Rabobank Project Incubator Award" to the project judged to have the greatest economic and social impact on local communities.
Background
EMRC initiated the Project Incubator Award at the AgriBusiness Forum held in Rome in the spring of 2008. At the Africa Finance & Investment Forum held in Paris at the end of 2008, a US$ 10,000 prize was awarded to MUPECI, a Cameroonian microfinance institution for its Soya project. At the AgriBusiness Forum 2009 held in Cape Town the prize was increased to US$ 15,000 and the Winner was the Coopérative Générale de Sepingo (COOGES) of Côte d’Ivoire for their cashew nuts project. The Winner of the Project Incubator Award at the Africa Finance & Investment Forum 2009, was Derekorp Ltd. Of Uganda. Read more about the winning project proposals here.

 How to Enter

  Who Can Apply?
  • Applications are limited to participants attending the EMRC Forums
  • The project must be implemented in Africa
  • At least one project partner must come from and be based in Africa (there are no gender or age requirements)
  • The contest is open to all sectors of economic activity related to Agro-Food or Rural Development
  • The project should support farmer cooperatives or encourage their creation
  • The project should contribute to the development of the local community
  • The project representative and spokesperson should have good communication skills          

            
  What is the Selection Process?

  • Candidates are invited to submit the application documents with their complete contact details to the Project Manager of each forum (please see Project Incubator Award section of the event you will be attending).  After the pre-selection process, the committee will announce the names and projects of candidates, the nominees will be notified accordingly.

  • The pre-selected candidates will present their projects during a targeted plenary session to an audience of potential partners and investors from Africa, Europe, USA, India and beyond.

  • The winner will receive the Award of US$ 15,000 during the Gala Evening of the Forum.
